Downtown Denton
The first time you walk through downtown Denton, you'll notice that there's an energy here, a creative buzz that permeates the city. It's young and old, it's music and art, a rich history with a contemporary spirit.
Visible from most parts of the city is the iconic Courthouse Square, which defines much of Denton's architecture as well as its personality. Denton's Courthouse Square is not a faux tourist attraction, created as a quaint visitor photo-op. No, it's the real thing --- a thriving hub of activity, frequented by locals, and vibrant with music and movement both day and night. The Square is where it all happens: outdoor musicians, festivals, great shops and restaurants, and practically constant activity. Everything a town square used to be in 1896, it still is today in Denton.
Home to two universities, Denton is every bit a college town and you can't walk the streets without passing groups of students. In contrast, there are many long-time inhabitants: families who are ingrained in Denton's history, horse-breeders who have been here for generations.
The people who call Denton home are passionate about art in all its forms, but music tops the list. No discussion of this city is complete without mentioning the live music scene. During any given week, you can hear music of all genres - from jazz to rock to country - at any of Denton's many clubs and venues that host top-notch musicians and bands. Stroll across the Courthouse lawn on a warm Saturday morning and you'll hear impromptu jam sessions. Did you bring your guitar? Then you're welcome to join in! Pass through at night and you'll hear the beats blowing through the air, coming from the many downtown bars, lounges and clubs.
We hope you'll come to Denton, and spend some time downtown.
