History
A Texas Historical Commission Main Street City, Denton boasts more than 140 renovated structures in downtown, where the heart of the city beats to the rhythm of rich regional history merging with modern sophistication. The historic town-square is the cornerstone of downtown, a mixed-use entertainment district crowned at its center by the beautifully restored Denton County Courthouse, home to the expansive Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum. In continuous operation since 1896, the Courthouse still houses some of Denton County's business offices, too.
The Historical Park of Denton County Denton offers visitors a waltz back in time to the turn of the century where tours are available most days year-round in the Victorian-era Bayless-Selby House Museum, the African American Museum, and the newly acquired Welcome Center. Just one block off the Square, the fully restored Campus Theater fills the air with music, dancing, drama and laughter as the Denton Community Theater presents North Texas' finest and most loved performers in live theater productions year round.
